1.Concert by the Finnish Chamber Music Orchestra Avanti!

Sponsored by Nokia, Fortum and Finnair  (by invitation only)

 The Avanti! Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1983 by the conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen and Jukka-Pekka Saraste. It is an ensemble that varies in size from a string quartet to a symphony orchestra.  Avanti! specializes in no particular style, it is proud of being a specialist in all, with a strong feeling of responsibility towards the music of today.

2.Performance by Helsinki City Theatre Dance Group

Time: 25th and 26th Oct. 2000 at 19.30

Venue: Beijing Great Nationality Theatre

Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company is the first and largest professional contemporary dance group in Finland.

Programme: Tero Saarinen's choreography Pulcinella for 12 dancers and Anzu Furukawa's choreography Izukoe for a solo dancer. Performed by the Artistic Director of Helsinki City Theatre Dance Company Ari Tenhula. Mr Ari Tenhula and Mr Tero Saarinen are the most famous young generation contemporary dance choreographer/dancers in Finland.

Organized on the basis of Cultural Exhange between China and Finland. The organiser in China: The Ministry of Culture/CPAA (China Performing Atrs Agency). The organisers in Finland: Ministry of Education and Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

3.Heikki Sarmanto Jazz Group

 Sponsored by Metsä-Serla and Finnair (by invitation only)

 Composer-pianist Heikki Sarmanto must rank as one of the most internationally known figures in Finnish jazz.  He was the first Finnish jazz musician to win a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.  In 1970 he was chosen jazz musician of the year of Finland and in 1971 he won prizes at the Montreux Jazz Festival in the piano and combo categories. 

4.Finnish puppet theatre “Sytkyt”

  The Nutcracker, Tshaikovski's Music, performance in English (by invitation only).

 The leading principle of The Finnish Puppet Theatre Sytkyt, since the year 1985, is to be for children the first step in their education to grown-ups who love and understand theatre.  The founder and actor of Sytkyt is Juha Laukkanen. He has been also working as the Ambassador of the good will of the UNICEF.

5.Light in the Wilderness -photo exhibition, the nature of Finnish Lapland at different seasons

Time: 20th of October  - 2nd November 2000

Venue: Jianquo Hotel

  Tauno Kohonen is a Finnish photographer who has faithfully captured on film the last Finnish wilderness areas year after year. A photographic exhibition depicting the singularity of Finnish nature and northern light. The photographs are from north-eastern Finland, from Kuusamo, near Finland's eastern border. The exhibition includes several pictures taken in the same location, but distinguishable from one another by the passage of the seasons.

·      Finnish Design Book, published by  Zhao Changchun, printed by Ya Chung Color Printing House

·      Witness to History, The Memoirs of Mauno Koivisto, President of Finland 1982-1994, translated in Chinese by Yang Yuguang, Chen Yenzhang and Yang Jong, published by Shanghai Yi Lin Publishing House in 2000  

·      The Journey of the Marshal of Finland Carl Gustav Emil Mannerheim across Asia on horse back by Wang Jiaji, published by  Shan Dong Pictorial Publishing House

·       Finnish Political History by Jukka Nevakivi, Osmo Jussila and Seppo Hentilä, translated in Chinese by Zhang Weihua, published by China Economy Publishing House
